MODULE 1 LAB 1 - Embodied Consent

In this workshop we will cover the basics of consent and your body. Participants will learn communication tools for setting clear boundaries and expectations, explore language they can use to make a more consent based and embodied process, and participate in exercises to begin to somatically integrate consent.

 Introduction

  • Arrival practice
    • This is perhaps someone’s first chance to check in with their body
    • What are access needs? Model your needs.
    • Release the need to look like you are learning
    • Virtual invitation to be aware of camera, self-view, etc.
    • Exit strategies
  • Why are you here - slower introduction

Exercise: Red, Yellow, Green

  • List of statements that are about consent, boundaries and the culture of where we are.
  • What is consent?
    • Define as a group & present our definitions
  • How do we talk about bodies?
    • Gender Inclusivity

Journal Opportunity: What feels good to you? How do you know what feels good? What does bad feel like to you? How do you know? What does that binary feel like to you? How do you know?

  • What is embodiment?
    • What does attuning to your body mean to you?
    • What is embodied consent?

STRETCH / Halfway Closure  ….and then break for lunch.

Exercise: Embodying the levels of Yes, Nos and Maybes – Participants embody one of the options, we guess which and talk about it once it’s revealed.

Group Conversation: Set up a hypothetical situation with given context around a no. “Someone greets you with a very strong and surprising “No” energy.” “an actor tentatively approaches you with a very apologetic no” etc. Question to the learner of “Where did you feel that in your body?” Rather than “how would you handle it?”

Small Group Collage - Create an artistic collage on your google slide in our shared course slide deck that represent the words CONSENT, INTERDEPENDENCE, etc.

Closure Exercise

Presenting the virtual collages and a group breath/stretch/moment.
